Jalen Smith, F/C
General Comments: Has the shooting ability to stretch the floor, size leads him to be a viable rim protector, lack of speed on both ends of the floor will be evident in the pro game
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: If he can stay on the floor, rebounding and rim protection alone make him an interesting top-150 dynasty prospect. He doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but if his shot translates he becomes a more appealing long-term prospect. Playing time will be an issue after landing with a team that is building around another young center.
RJ Hampton, G
General Comments: Flashy athletic ability, can score at the rim, good off-ball guard, inconsistent jump shot, poor fundamental defender, size and athletic ability leave the potential to be a decent backcourt defender
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Might not have done himself many favors playing overseas, as his flaws were heavily exposed but he is probably being underrated at this point. Still a young prospect with good size and physical tools. Top-100 dynasty prospect at his ceiling with a mix of boards, assists, threes and steals.
Tyrese “too good to pass” Maxey, G
General Comments: Inefficient combo guard, willing to defend both guard positions, will need to improve ball-handling and jump shot to become a reliable offensive option. He is an elite finisher at the rim, and a credible on ball defender but his shooting woes are well documented at this point.
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Probably one of the players with the widest range of potential outcomes outside of the lottery. Someone in your league probably buys him as an eventual top-50 guy due to the Kentucky shine, so that alone makes Maxey worth rostering in all dynasty leagues regardless of his actual ceiling that is likely more humble.
Vernon Carey, C
General Comments: Very good touch around the basket for his size, will need to develop a long-range jump shot, surprisingly agile, lacks elite athleticism, has trouble defending in space
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Advanced stat darling with a questionable ceiling at the next level. Worth a gamble in most dynasty formats on a potential top-150 ceiling, but rebounding and block production may not translate well to the next level.
Desmond Bane, G
General Comments: Improved game over all four college seasons, high IQ player, above average catch-and-shoot numbers, can finish with either hand around the rim, lack of speed and length makes him a matchup concern on defense, struggles to stay in front of quicker players
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Could be a solid off-the-bench guy on a good team early on in his career, making him worth a shot in most dynasty formats. Doesn’t have a sky-high ceiling, but I like rolling the dice on high IQ guys and he will fit in perfectly with the young Grizzlies.
Josh Green, G/F
General Comments: Elite defensive potential, excellent on-ball defender, ideal frame , lacks versatility on the offensive end, cannot create for himself or others
Injury History: torn labrum surgery (2019)
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Interesting defensive potential, but offensive limitations cap his ceiling. Top-175 type potential in dynasty formats depending on how his game rounds out. Green is one of the best athletes in the draft and will need to polish his skills to become a good 3-and-D wing.
Isaiah Stewart
General Comments: Touts a polished post game from either side of the block, will bang in the post with anyone, bully in the paint, relentless motor, needs to develop a mid-range shot, lacks explosiveness and quickness, plays below the rim and is generally a bad fit for today’s NBA game.
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Could end up flaming out pretty quickly, so don’t invest significant dynasty draft stock. Watch list player in most dynasty formats.
Theo Maledon, G
General Comments: Inefficient combo guard, lacks premier athleticism and struggles to beat defenders in isolation, smooth and smart playmaker with the ball in his hands, limited potential defensively due to lack of size and athleticism
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: He is young and the combination of size with leadership makes him a safer player. He could unlock another level but looks more like a solid role player down the road. Not very high fantasy ceiling as he projects to be a better real-life player rather than a fantasy asset.
Paul Reed, PF
General Comments: Very good athlete, strong shot blocker, size to guard on the wing and in the post, energetic rebounder, does not have any outside game, needs to develop a mid-range jump shot to become a rotation player in the league
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: He is an older prospect who likely helped his draft prospects out by staying another year. Interesting stat set potential with boards, steals and blocks, but may not be able to stay on the floor long enough to be an impact guy. A fine top-150 flier in mid-sized dynasty formats, but there are better options in shallower leagues.
Robert Woodard, F
General Comments: Team player, does the little things, does not do any one thing extraordinarily, great team defender, viable spot-up 3-point shooter, lacks handle or skills to create on his own at the next level
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Defensive stat production is interesting, but probably more of a watch list player in most dynasty formats. Woodard has the frame and potential to be a prototypical 3-and-D player. He has the shooting in the bag, knocking down over 42% of his threes in college, but the defense needs some work before he becomes a full time rotation player.
Zeke Nnaji, F/C
General Comments: A quick and mobile big with an above average scoring touch, quick first step helps him create separation, can run and finish easily in the open court, not a rim protector and needs to add strength
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: His scoring ability will likely keep him on the radar and he should be able to average a double-double. Still only 19 so the upside is there but his limitations put a floor on his ceiling and should be viewed as a specialist only, at least early on.
Isiah Joe, G
General Comments: Smooth jumper but has been inconsistent, high volume 3-point shooter, length gives him the ability to be a decent defender on the wing, concerns regarding his knee and overall regression from freshman to sophomore seasons
Injury History: knee surgery (2019)
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Watch list player in deeper dynasty formats solely due to shooting indicators, but not much fantasy appeal otherwise as he projects to be another specialist.
Xavier Tillman, PF/C
General Comments: Active low-post scorer, adequate post defender, high motor on the glass, struggles to guard in space and too small to bang in the post on defense
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Undersized player for his skill set. Shooting indicators are not great, and without at least a competent outside shot he may struggle to stay on the floor in the NBA. He is stuck at the bottom of the depth chart in Memphis but is a smart player who does all the little things, attributes that will endear him to the team’s fanbase.
Jaden McDaniels, F
General Comments: Will seamlessly fit into positionless NBA, smooth with ball for his size (6’10”), will shoot from anywhere on the court, wiry frame is a detriment on defense, smaller players have the ability to move him off the ball.
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Advanced numbers are a concern along with only decent shooting indicators. Still enough skill there to warrant a pick in deeper dynasty formats and could have top-150 potential in the right situation but don’t expect playing time any time soon in Minny.
Jalen Harris, G
General Comments: High -scoring two-guard who played his last year in the Mountain West Conference with Nevada. He was an offensive dynamo who took 3-pointers in bulk and rebounded well for his position.
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: It'll be interesting to see if he can slide into the Raptors rotation at any point as a bench scorer, but with Fred VanVleet staying it’s highly unlikely.
Tre Jones, G
General Comments: Great decision-maker, low turnover player, substantial increase in 3P% from freshman to sophomore year, can run the offense in half court or get out on the break, below-average athleticism, will need to show he can be a competent shooter to earn minutes in the league.
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Good assist to turnover ratio, but only average shooting indicators. Could be a bit of a project, but worth stashing in deeper formats. San Antonio, who is known for their player development and finding value in overlooked players, may have found their next piece with him.
Nick Richards, C
General Comments: High-percentage shooter around the rim, explosive off the ground, exceptional rim-protector, very raw offensive game, needs to develop more post moves around the paint
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Watch list in deep dynasty leagues, but his age and limited upside cap his long-term appeal.
Immanuel Quickley, G
General Comments: Rangy guard with 6’9” wingspan that can play both backcourt positions, developed into a high-level shooter from deep, above-average spot-up shooter, length gives him the ability to guard either guard position plus some wings, not an explosive athlete, has trouble scoring when not spotting up
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Shooting ability and size make him an interesting watch list player in most leagues. Probably only roster-worthy in deep dynasty formats as a specialist.
Daniel Oturu, C
General Comments: One of the most improved players at the collegiate level last year, agile but not strong, helpful rebounder/rim protector, switchable but needs to add weight for the next level.
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Scratches the surface of top-100 if 3-point shot unlocks and defensive stats translate at the next level. He is already 21 but not quite NBA-ready and him landing with the Clippers means he will be spending a lot of time in the G League.
Reggie Perry, PF
General Comments: Top-tier strength and size, raw explosiveness, overpowering on offense, very raw defensively, not a great shot-blocker for his size and leaping ability
Fantasy/Dynasty Outlook: Interesting stat set potential if he can develop a reliable outside shot, but outside of deep dynasty formats isn’t anything more than a watchlist candidate and him also landing with the Clippers means he will be spending a lot of time in the G League.
